Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. will soon be launching their iconic Thar SUV with a BSIV compliant M2DICR engine for Rs. 6,13,331 (ex-showroom Delhi). The move comes at a time when the government is cracking down on poor emission standards in the country and tightening emission norms and regulations for the future.
The M2DICR will have the same cubic capacity of 2,523cc but has an increased torque figure of 195Nm which comes in at 1400rpm and goes upto 2200rpm. The M2DICR engine will put out a higher peak torque figure which also comes in faster on the rev band and lasts longer when compared with the BS-III compliant DI engine.
At present the company is retailing the 2,498cc CRDe along with the two 2,523cc DI and M2DICR engines on the Thar. The M2DICR variant of the Thar however is more expensive than the starting 2WD DI variant by a little more than Rs. 24,000. At present Mahindra is only offering the M2DCIR variant in a 2WD option. Stay tuned for more updates!
