Bullets To Put Out Fires In Maharashtra — Now That's A Thumping Good Idea
Maharashtra's Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) fire brigade has inducted a fleet of seven Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles into its ranks.
The bikes are fitted with two backpack style fire extinguishers each with a capacity of 10 litres.
The motorcycles will be used for first aid fire fighting on the narrow lanes of the fifth largest city in Maharashtra.
The firefighting system used is a water mist-based system and it uses a very fine water spray to extinguish the fire.
The water mist, creates a blanket around the fire depriving it of oxygen by making the air around it inert. This results in a very rapid suppression of the fire.
Each of the seven motorcycles cost the Vasai-Virar fire brigade Rs. 5.30 lakh.
All seven motorcycles have been cleared to run on the city's streets and should soon be zipping through the city's narrow roads.
The firefighting motorcycles are based on the Bullet Electra which was recently re-branded as the Bullet 350 ES by Royal Enfield.
The 350 ES is powered by 346cc, single-cylinder engine that pushes out 19.8bhp @ 5,250rpm and 28Nm @ 4,000rpm.
