When Switzerland-based Toni Haberthuer was with Swarovski, he used to collect figurines from the brand. Now that he’s with Victorinox as their global head, knife division, he ends up collecting them too. Haberthuer says he has also learnt about the art of using various types of knives. “My knife block at home has about 24 knives, including six steak knives,” he said. But his fascination for knives comes with its set of drawbacks. “Back home, my wife and I do most of the chores ourselves.

So when I cook in the kitchen, I end up using five different types of knives to complete one job. That essentially means five knives to wash. My wife is always complaining about that,” says Haberthuer with a laugh. When asked about a tip for knife care, he had a very simple answer: “Just rinse your knives with lukewarm water to remove the fruit and vegetable acid from the blades. You don’t always need soap or to put them in the dishwasher for two hours — just rinsing each time will keep the knives healthy.” That’s sharp.
