Khalsa College for Women crossed yet another milestone by clinching the overall trophy at zonal youth and heritage festival held at SDP College from September 27-30.

Ludhiana: Khalsa College for Women crossed yet another milestone by clinching the overall trophy at zonal youth and heritage festival held at SDP College from September 27-30.
As many as 43 prizes were won by the talented contingent of the college, beating 10 other prominent colleges of Zone B to take the lead.
The students made optimal use of the opportunity provided by the youth festival to showcase their talent and made the college proud by clinching as many as 11 first, 10 second and 22 third prizes in various categories.

College managing committee and principal Dr Mukti Gill congratulated the teachers and participating students for their efforts and encouraged the young artists to take part in cultural events.

First prize
Quiz, ghazal, crochet, collage making, photography, muhavredar vartalap (group), essay writing, group dance, giddha, group dance (individual) and giddha (individual)
Second prize
Mimicry, bagh embroidery, mehndi, mime, drama, histrionics, essay writing, orchestra (Indian), percurssion (A percussion instrument is a musical instrument that is sounded by being struck or scraped by a beater) and traditional song

Third prize
Classical vocal, tokri making, paranda making, heritage quiz, peehri making, skit (group), skit (individual), bhand, knitting, cross stitch, clay modelling, on-the-spot painting, muhavredar vartalap (individual), poem recitation, still life, poster making, orchestra (individual), non-percurssion, luddi flok dance, luddi (individual), kali (individual) and vaar ( heroic ode or ballad) (individual)
Arya College gets runners-up trophy
Ludhiana: Students of Arya College gave a spectacular account of their talent in the recently concluded four-day Panjab University youth and heritage festival of Ludhiana zone-A, organized at Gobindgarh Public College Alour (Khanna). As many as 2,000 students from 15 co-educational colleges took part in the event. Arya College bagged the runners-up trophy by clinching 37 prizes.
Principal Dr RC Tejpal stated that the college had won 11 first, 14 second and 12 third prizes in 53 events. He also congratulated the winners and the professors in charge of the various teams on this stupendous achievement.
Arya College won first prize in team events like one act play and group song and in individual category in various events. Balram Rajput (mimicry), Aarti (rangoli), Harmanpreet Kaur (naala making), Sonia (paranda making), Prabhjot Kaur (guiddian patole), Jasbir (khiddo making), Soni Kumari (phulkari), Tajinder Pal Singh (skit) and Harmandeep Singh (malwai gidha) were adjudged best in their respective events.
The college won the second positions in group bhajan, Punjabi folk dance, group dance general, muhavaredaar vartalaap, folk orchestra and mime. Reenu Verma (toy making from clay), Harjot Kaur (mehandi), Harnam Kaur (clay modelling), Pooja Rani (knitting), Karan (one act play), Vishal Kumar (group song) and Paramjit Prabhjot Singh (folk orchestra) were second in their respective competitions. The college bagged third prizes in group events like ladies traditional songs, bhand (naqals), Manpreet Singh (classical vocal), Pankaj Bali (folk instrument), Priyanka (rangoli), Mandeep Kaur (chhikku making), Saloni (ennu making), Inderjit Singh (tokra making), Govind Sharma (cartooning), Sonam (poster making), Balram Rajput (histrionics) and Ajay Kumar (folk orchestra) brought laurels to their institution.
GNGC superlative winners
Ludhiana: Students of Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, performed commendably in all events at PU zonal youth and heritage festival by bringing home 54 prizes. The girls clinched as many as 20 first prizes in the category of poem recitation, installation, cartooning, rangoli, still life, clay modelling, mitti de khidaune, shabad gayan (individual), Indian orchestra and ennu making. Three second prizes were bagged in tokri making, pakkhi making and on-the-spot painting competitions. The students gave a tough competition to their contenders by capturing 31 third positions in naala making, guddian patole, bagh embroidery, sammi, folk instrument, group shabad, elocution, debate, creative writing (poetry and essay), histrionics, mimicry, kali gayan (group), kali gayan (individual) and kawishri (individual).
Principal Dr Charanjit Mahal applauded the efforts put in by the students and the faculty. stupendous results shown by the students. She exclaimed that the students deserve a special kudos for their exemplary efforts that has bedecked the glory of the college.
