Witnessing all-round development, Rasulpura village with 92 per cent Scheduled Caste population has become the first model village in this block of Fatehgarh Sahib district with special grant issued by the state government.

The village has achieved the status within one-and-a-half years after the state government issued a special grant of Rs 76.55 lakh for its over-all development in 2015.

Interlocking tiles have been laid in all streets of the village, streetlights have been installed and parks and playgrounds have been constructed in the village. However, the model gram had generated interest among the residents of the area who are visiting the village to know about the all-round development in the village.

Village sarpanch Dharampal Singh said the total population of the village was 576 and 92 per cent of them belonged to the Bazigar community, while 8 per cent of the people belonging to the general category live in deras located outside the village.

He said earlier the village was backward on account of development as it lacked basic facilities like well-maintained streets and drains. Dharampal said there was a scheme of the state government that it would provide special grants where SC population was more than 60 per cent.
