Verdasco beats Soeda in opening round of Japan Open tennis tournament

The longest running ATP World Tour tennis tournament, the Japan Open, has kicked off in Tokyo, with Fernando Verdasco, Marin Cilic and Joao Sousa all posting first-round victories.

Verdasco came back from a set down to beat home player Go Soeda 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 and go through to the second round.

The 32-year-old Spaniard needed 2 hours to complete the victory. Next up for Verdasco is a match against 4th-seeded Maran Cilic of Croatia.
