VADODARA: Various organizations and many individuals celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by doing their bit for Swachh Bharat Mission across the city on Sunday. Apart from tree plantation programme of Vadodara Municipal Corporation, citizens and organizations celebrated the day in different ways.
The youth wing of Confederation of Indian Industries - Young Indians (YI), Vadodara distributed around 1,000 car-bins to car owners in Akota.
"Car drivers often throw litter on road without caring about cleanliness of the surroundings, with car-bins we want people to not throw litter on road but put it in the car-bin and dispose it off properly," said YI Vadodara chairman Pranav Bhavsar.
In coming weeks, YI Vadodara plans to distribute 5,000 more such car-bins and undertake tree plantation drive at Sama Sports Complex and Regional Transport Office in Warasiya.
A city-based artist Amarnath Sharma has made glasses of Mahatma Gandhi out of metal, which is believed to be largest in India. The glasses have been placed at 'alaiya balaiya' garba venue in Manjalpur. The giant-sized replica is also the symbol of Swachh Bharat Mission of Government of India.
"The art piece has been made to celebrate 100 days of Swachh Vadodara campaign. Through this replica we want to instil cleanliness and hygiene habits among children," said Sachin Kaluskar, who has curated the art piece.
Many students of M S University's Faculty of Fine Arts spread the message of cleanliness by creating a graffiti on the walls of GMERS Medical College at Gotri.
