MYSURU: Gandhian Surendra Koulagi said problems like Kashmir and the Cauvery water-sharing crisis can be resolved only by following Gandhian principles.
During the International Day of Non-Violence organised by the University of Mysore at the Gandhi Study Centre on Sunday, he said with Pakistani terrorists killing Indian soldiers and the Indian Army retaliating with surgical strikes targeting terrorists units across the border has left both countries on the verge of war.

"If there is a war, both nations will suffer. One cannot establish peace on the grave of violence," he said.
Expressing his regret at the recent violence with regard to the Cauvery water-sharing dispute, he said Mahatma Gandhi's dream of Akhand Bharat cannot be a reality if people fight with each other.
"The Kashmir dispute cannot be resolved by waging war between countries nor will be the Cauvery water dispute end through violence in both states. There should be peace and harmony in the country. Political parties should stop reaping benefit from such incidents and spread Gandhian principles across the country," he said.
University of Mysore VC KS Rangappa said youths should learn Gandhi's principles and thoughts. "The university is spending Rs 50 lakh to construct a Sabarmati Ashram on the university campus and construction will start soon," he said.

Gandhi Jayanti celebrations were also organised at the JSS Arts, Commerce and Science College. Kuvempu Kannada Studies professor C Naganna said every individual should adopt the concept of simple living and high thinking. "Everybody should lead their lives on the Gandhian path," he said.
The District Congress Committee too celebrated the event at Gandhi Circle. Committee president BJ Vijaykumar said human beings will take the world to adversity through war and violence.
