Jamshedpur: In a bid to boost women empowerment among the physically challenged, Jamshedpur Women's College of Kolhan University has introduced new schemes to aide young girls and women to improve their economic conditions.
On Sunday, the college distributed 10 sewing machines among the women from financially weaker sections. Also, six hearing machines for deaf and those with artificial limbs and one wheel chair were also distributed to the women on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

"As part of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) scheme (in tune with the UGC guidelines set for the NAAC affiliated colleges), we introduced this scheme to help the physically challenged and economically poor women," JWC principal Shukla Mohanty said.
The beneficiaries, who came from different parts of the city, were in full of praise of the college on receiving the benefit. "We never thought that a college would come forward to improve our lives and provide livelihood tools to us," beneficiaries said.
"Give that (Marwari yuva) manch has been working in this field for several years, we decided to take the expertise service of the organization to ensure tools are available to the prospective beneficiaries," a college staff said.
Sighbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) president Suresh Sonthalia, who was present at the function today, announced to extend cooperation to the college in all possible ways to empower disabled people, particularly women.
"We see a noble reason behind our resolve to come hand in hand with the college in empowering the disabled people, especially the poor women," said Sonthalia.
