AURANGABAD: Police and sleuths of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1375kg ganja in two separate raids in Aurangabad and Muzaffarpur districts on Sunday.
While the Aurangabad police seized 900 kg ganja worth Rs 50 lakh from a mini truck on NH-2 and arrested four persons, in Muzaffarpur, DRI sleuths seized 475kg ganja concealed inside the chassis of a container truck on NH-57 near Maithi toll plaza under Gaighat police station.

In Aurangabad, police have also seized Rs 2.7 lakh from those arrested and the truck on which the ganja was being carried. On a tip-off that a vehicle carrying ganja was to enter the town, a police team carried out a vehicle checking drive on NH-2 and intercepted a mini truck loaded with ganja.
“The consignment was brought from Jharkhand for supplying in different parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,” said SP Satyaprakash.
The arrested smugglers have been identified as Roshan Kumar, Ramlakhan Prasad, Upendra Giri and Rukhi Saw all residents of separate villages under Haspura and Daudnagar police stations of the district. “The arrested smugglers have given vital inputs related to the gang involved in smuggling of contraband. Police will soon launch an operation to nab the other gang members,” said the SP.
Meanwhile, in Muzaffarpur, DRI sources said the container driver, Sumit Kumar (29), and smuggling agent Kalicharan (35), were also arrested.

“The consignment was loaded at Cooch Behar in West Bengal and was to be transported to Jhajjar in Haryana,” said a DRI official adding it was meant for export in international market. He said the raid was conducted at 3am on a tip-off. He also said till date around three tonnes of ganja has already been seized in Bihar since the enforcement of toatl prohibition in the state, while the same quantity was seized during last financial year.
“Sunday’s catch was the seventh major haul in Bihar,” said the official adding that on August 24 they had seized a consignment of 824kg ganja near Maithi toll plaza.
