DEHRADUN: A unique Failure Conclave was held in the city on Sunday featuring sessions by a number of Padma Shri awardees who had faced failures in their academic careers but later went on to do exceedingly well in life. Speakers at the conclave included Ayurvedic practitioner Vaidya Balendu Prakash, poet Leeladhar Jaguri and activist Avadhash Kaushal who stressed upon the fact that failure is often a necessary ingredient for success.

Avdesh Kaushal, Padamshree recipient social worker who organized the interaction said, “Many students commit suicide on getting failed in the school exams every year. There is an extreme pressure of study on students these days. In childhood itself, they have become old. They have lost the innocence and smile and look stressed most of the time. This must change.”
Kaushal said, he himself failed couple of times in schools but this did not deter him doing well in life. He taught IAS trainees at Mussoorie institutes for several years.
Balendu Prakash, Padamshree awardee Auryedic practitioner said, he too failed twice in school while his siblings always stood first in their classes. There were other reasons which included partial treatment of teachers with him which made him feel dejected towards studies. However when he found his calling in Ayruveda, he did his best in it. “When one door is closed, destiny opens many doors for you. Had I excelled in studies, I too would have ended up becoming public servant like my siblings and, not a successful Ayurvedic practitioner which I am today.”
Another Padamshree recipient and poet, Leela Dhar Jaguri, who also left studies for a longer haul and left home for 11 years when he lost his mother and was married off in childhood said that he did not let any inferiority complex came his way and pursued his interest in writing and reading.
Zainab Khushbu, student of Nari Shilp Mandir who recently faced failure said, this interaction infused new confidence in her not to feel disheartened. She said, she feels zestful towards life and would now work hard to achieve her goal.
