NASHIK: The
earthquake analysis department in
Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (MERI) has reported earthquakes of 2.9 Richter scale in Otur village – 24 km away from Nashik. The disaster management office at Nashik, reproducing the report of the department said that the tremors were registered on September 27, 28 and 29 with maximum of
tremor of 2.9 Richter on September 28, 2016.The tehsildar office of Kalwan taluka which hosts Dalpatpur and Otur, said that the tremors were felt very often in this part of the region given the region having fault lines.
“There have been large numbers of tremors during the past 13 years and the maximum has touched 3.0 Richter in the past. The people here are aware of such incidents and immediately rush out of their homes in the even if tremors,” the officer said adding that the situation was reviewed in the villages – every day – and no loss of life and property was reported from anywhere.The officers for MERI pointed out that the tremors were part of the action of the plates in Godvari and
Tapi Valley adjusting themselves in microns. Nashik is categorized zone – 3 in the seismic activity.
The district administration had even taken help of scientists from seismologic department of central government.Western regions of Kalwan taluka– that include Dalwat, Khirad, Bordaivat and other villages that have been witnessing the tremors since last 13 years. Though in all the period, there hasn’t been any loss of life registered, but the property has been affected in terms of minor cracks to the houses of the villagers.
