Doha: The State of Qatar won the membership of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the period 2016-2018 in the elections conducted by the 60th Annual Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference, in Vienna.
The two seats were up for grabs on the ad hoc group to the Middle East and South Asia.
The competing countries were Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iraq, where the State of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) won with big difference in votes from Iraq.
It is worth noting that this is the second win for the State of Qatar of membership of the Board of Governors, where Qatar had occupied the membership of the Board from 2013 to 2015.
