Two former Congress MLAs pass away

Dibrugarh: Two-time legislator from Dibrugarh, Kalyan Kumar Gogoi, and former MLA of Moran, Joy Chandra Nagbanshi, passed away on Friday morning. Both were from Congress.
Gogoi (70) passed away in Guwahati at 12.45 am following a brief illness. A dentist by profession, he first won from the Dibrugarh assembly seat in 1996. He was elected for the second time in 2001, but lost in 2006 and 2011.He was denied a ticket in the last assembly election.
Former minister and four-time MLA from Moran assembly constituency in Dibrugarh, Joy Chandra Nagbanshi, died of a stroke at 8.30 am in Dibrugarh. The Congressman and veteran tea tribe leader, also 70, represented the Moran assembly seat from 1978 to 2001.
Former union DoNER minister Paban Singh Ghatowar, Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan and Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha general secretary Dileswar Tanti mourned the deaths.
