This has been the fourth incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan after India’s successful surgical strikes on terrorist launch pads across the LoC. Earlier, during the wee hours of Thursday, it had resorted to small arms firing and mortar shelling at Kalal in Nowshera sector of Rajouri and Balnoi in Mendhar.

In view of the mounting tension along the borders, the state government has already put in place its contingency plan to deal with any emergency by ordering closure of all educational institutions in border areas, setting up camps at safe places and keeping at standby vehicles to evacuate people in case of Pakistani shelling.

Festive offer

A number of people at various places along the international border in Jammu region have started moving to the houses of their relatives or camps at safer places during night since Thursday. However, as borders by and large remained peaceful, the number of people shifting to safer places for the night had been far less on Friday evening, a senior official said.
