Kubota, Posco slash cost of joining steel piles

TOKYO -- Japan's Kubota and South Korean steelmaker Posco have come up with a cheaper way to join steel pipe piles used to underpin such public works as highways.

Kubota is eyeing the 2020 Olympics as an opportunity, as aging structures are fixed up in preparation for the event. The construction equipment manufacturer hopes to develop the joint into a new strategic product.
