New Delhi: More than 36 hours after a massive fire broke out at a factory in outer Delhi’s Narela Industrial Area, efforts to locate three men trapped inside were still on. Fire officers said on Friday that the portion of the three-storey building where two of their colleagues and a worker were trapped had collapsed as well. Sources said their chances of survival were very slim.
Two earth movers have been used in the rescue operations.
The building was stacked with plastic tumblers and was quickly engulfed in flames after a suspected short-circuit around 4pm on Wednesday. Fifty fire tenders were pressed into service to control the blaze.
Firemen Sunil and Manjeet were trapped under the debris while trying to save some workers trapped on the floor above. Senior fire officers met the family members of the duo on Friday. “It is a challenge for the rescuers to coordinate with the earth movers in carefully removing pieces of debris to locate the missing men,” said Harinder Singh, a fire officer.
