Patna: Former RJD MP Mohd Shahabuddin surrendered in the court of Siwan chief judicial magistrate (CJM) within hours of the Supreme Court order on Friday, cancelling the bail granted to him by the Patna high court on September 7 in the Rajiv Roshan murder case of June 2014.
Roshan was the sole witness to the killing of his two brothers, Girish and Satish. Shahabuddin has been awarded life term by a trial court in the twin murder case.
The three brothers were sons of Siwan businessman Chandrakeshwar Prasad alias Chanda Babu.
Chanda Babu and his wife Kalavati Devi and the Bihar government had through separate petitions challenged the bail to Shahabuddin.
The Siwan strongman reached the court on a two-wheeler around 1.45pm after offering Friday prayers. ADG (HQ) Sunil Kumar said he was sent to the Siwan district jail.
Tension prevailed in Siwan town for some time as, police said, over 200 Shahabuddin supporters moved around the city and allegedly attacked the media persons who tried to take Shahabuddin’s photograph when he was going to the court. However, the ADG said policemen in large numbers were deployed in different parts of the town to thwart any untoward incident.
In response to a question, according to agencies, Shahabuddin told newsmen before his surrender, “I stand by the truth I had said about him (that Nitish Kumar was a chief minister of the circumstances).... I do not have any problem about speaking the truth even today.” He further said his supporters would teach him (Kumar) a lesson in the next election.
