RCMP in Sundre and Rocky Mountain House has recovered a cache of stolen property, including quads, snowmobiles, RVs, trailers, trucks and firearms.

The investigation began on September 27 when police were notified of the theft of a number of items stolen from a truck in Sundre.

Police were soon led to a rural property south of Rocky Mountain House, where they seized 16 brand new quads and snowmobiles, three new RV Units, two trailers, one low boy flat deck trailer and five used trucks.

RCMP also seized several firearms from the home.

Police say that many of the stolen OHVs were still in their packing crates while others had been assembled on the property.

Ownership of all the stolen property is still being worked out, but RCMP believes that most of the OHVs and snowmobiles, along with the trailer, were taken from Calgary.

Two of the RV units were stolen from Sundre while the third stolen from Calgary.

Police are particularly happy with the weapons seizure.

“We’re always pleased with successful outcomes such as these,” says Sergeant Jim Lank, with the Sundre RCMP. “Any time we can take guns out of the hands of wrongful owners, we make a community somewhat safer.”

Two men were arrested at the scene and have been charged in connection with the thefts.

John Michael Kidd, 38, of Rocky Mountain House, has been charged with 11 property related offences and two offences connected to improper storage and licencing of firearms.

Kidd was released on a promise to appear in court on October 26.

Kacy Savoie, 29, of Calgary, has been charged with 11 property related offences and one offence for being in possession of a controlled substance.

Savoie has been remanded in custody to appear in Red Deer’s Provincial Court on September 30.

Additional charges are pending against the pair in connection with the stolen OHVs and snowmobiles.

The investigation is still ongoing.
