After launching the Ameo with a petrol engine in June, 2016, Volkwagen has introduced the much-awaited Ameo diesel. The compact sedan starts at Rs 6.27 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. The sub-4 metre car now comes with an option of a DSG automatic transmission, a first for its segment. The Ameo diesel is powered by a newly developed 1.5 L engine that generates 108hp of max power at 4,000 rpm and 250Nm of peak torque from 1,500 rpm to 3,000 rpm.
The three-box car is available with a 5-speed manual transmission as well. The Ameo with a petrol engine had a number of segment first safety and convenience features. The same features including an automatic transmission have been carried forward in the diesel option. On the occasion, Micheal Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “We have witnessed the successful launch of our made-in-India and made-for-India Ameo petrol during summer this year. Now with the Ameo diesel being introduced during the festivities, we have an opportunity to cater to a wider set of customers, thereby further expanding the Volkswagen family. Ameo diesel will be equipped with a 5-speed manual and our very popular 7-speed DSG gearbox transmission making it the most compelling proposition in the segment.”
Speaking about segment first features, the Volkswagen Ameo comes with cruise control, rain sensing wipers, anti-pinch for all power windows and static cornering lights that help in illumating dark portions of the road while cornering. In terms of safety, all variants of the Ameo diesel will have ABS and dual front airbags as standard. The top-trim DSG version will also get traction control or Electronic Stability Program and Hill Hold Control. Other convenience features include climate control with pollen filter and rear AC vents, reverse parking camera with sensors, a touchscreen infotainment system, steering mounted audio and phone controls, tilt and telescopic adjust for the steering, cooled glovebox and a lot more. The Ameo seems to be a complete value-for-money proposition for buyers looking at safety, build quality and convenience features in their priority list.
