SURAT: M Thennarasan, who took over as municipal commissioner of Surat on Thursday, said he will give priority to putting mass transportation system on track to give last mile connectivity to people in the city.
Thennarasan, who hails from
Tamil Nadu, said, "Last mile connectivity and BRTS are very important for the common man in the city." The 2000 batch IAS officer, who is an MSc in agriculture and entomology, said smart city programmes, including
ICT and e-governance, and urban outer ring road project were his priority areas.
He was deputy collector of Vyara in Tapi district from 2002 to 2004, district collector of
Banaskantha and
Sabarkantha, deputy commissioner of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation from 2013 to 2015 and commissioner of geology and mining department from 2015-16.
Before taking over his new assignment in Surat, he was commissioner and secretary to Government of
Gujarat in the department of women and child development. He replaces Milind Torwane.
