VADODARA: Inmates of the Godhra sub-jail claimed to have gone on fast and submitted a memorandum to the district collector alleging mistreatment at the prison.
The Godhra police rushed to the jail and claimed that the issue had been resolved.
Several inmates of the prison had sent a signed letter addressed to the Panchmahal district collector alleging that they were not being given proper food in the prison.

They alleged because of unhygienic food, several inmates had taken ill and that they were not being sent to hospital for treatment. They even claimed that they were being threatened that they would be sent to another jail.
The inmates claimed that they had given up food since Tuesday. Officials, however, denied the allegations and said that the prisoners were making false claims to ensure that the jail administration mellowed down and rules were bent.
The inmates also alleged that their relatives, who came to meet them, were also harassed. It was also claimed in the letter that food items brought for fasts of inmates were taken away by officials.
Godhra B Division police inspector N V Patel who had gone to the jail said that the allegations were baseless. "There were some minor issues that have been ironed out," said Patel.
