Youth Congress protested in front of chief minister
Manik Sarkar's residence on Thursday and sought his resignation for making 'anti-India' remarks before international delegates last week.
The protesters called Sarkar 'an agent of Pakistan and China' and urged the Centre to arrest him. They also said the Modi
government was encouraging anti-Indian elements by not taking action against the chief minister.
At a business summit last week, Sarkar had accused India of acting like a 'big brother' towards its neighbours and advised the Centre to change the way it functioned. He received support from CPM state secretary Bijan Dhar. Not only Pakistan, Nepal and Myanmar had also borne the brunt of India's patronising attitude, Dhar had said.
"Sarkar's statements were well-documented. He made the offensive remarks in the presence of a joint secretary of the external affairs ministry; we can't understand how the Centre can remain silent over this," said Youth Congress leader Baptu Chakraborty.
Criticizing the Modi government, he said, "In Kashmir, people raise anti-India slogans. CPM and its lone CM make pro-Pakistan statements but Modi is silent."
