MUMBAI: State security agencies have been put on
alert following the
surgical strikes on seven “terror launchpads” across the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday night. Chief minister
Devendra Fadnavis made this revelation at a function in Thane on Thursday evening, while dismissing any cause for concern for residents.
He said an automatic alert is sounded every time there is any activity along the country’s borders and that the state is competent to tackle it.
“The surgical strikes conducted by the Indian army are a befitting reply. Following the strikes, we have sounded an alert to the agencies as it is a routine process. There is no reason for concern here. We are alert to the situation,” he told mediapersons.
Meanwhile, after coastal police were briefed about security, police boats began to patrol Arabian sea. The Yellow Gate, Sagri and Sewree police that cover the security of sea routes were put on alert too. “We are monitoring the situaiton and have adequate security,” said a police officer. Cops had put up the usual nakabandis at several places in the city.
The coastal belt of
Maharashtra had been put on alert in the aftermath of the Uri attacks and terror infiltrations.
“The naval chief has been regularly meeting Prime
Minister Narendra Modi and getting inputs on further course of action. Besides, the Navy is on vigil and ready to
strike in case they receive any information. The coast had been secured when two school students alerted authorities about spotting suspicious-looking men in Uran few days ago, which turned out to be a prank,” an Indian Navy source told TOI.
A defence spokesperson in Mumbai said in view of operational developments, certain activities of Western Naval Command have been cancelled. “These include plans to open up ships to visitors on October 1 and 2, as well as NCC cadets, sainik school and children’ day at sea on October 3,” said the official.
