HYDERABAD: The SIT probing the murder of gangster Nayeem has found that his associates had brutally murdered a journalist in Nalgonda after he leaked information about their activities to rivals. Meanwhile, Balladeer Gaddar met the DGP and requested him to re-investigate the attempt on his life in Alwal 19 years ago.
Film director Ramgopal Varma said he got threat calls from Nayeem’s associates after he announced a movie on Nayeem. He also released the theme song, sung by Varma himself, of the movie.
The murdered journalist Afzal Ahmed Khan alias Babar Khan worked for a local television channel and was a close associate of Nayeem. Due to Nayeem’s rivalry with TRS leader Konapuri Ramulu, Nayeem wanted Babar to update him about the movements of Ramulu, as he was close to Ramulu also.
But out of fear that Nayeem would kill Ramulu, Babar leaked some information to Ramulu. When Nayeem came to know this, he told his men to eliminate Babar. As per his instruction, they called Babar through another TRS leader and after he came, Shakeel beat him up. As Babar was an asthmatic patient, he collapsed, and when they forced him to drink water, he died.
They disposed Babar’s body in a lake and burnt it. After Ramulu’s murder in May 2014, Babar’s wife Asra Afreen lodged a complaint with the police, as Nayeem’s sister Saleema had threatened her not to reveal it.
Ramgopal Varma also tweeted that he has been getting threats from Nayeem. But in his typical style, he said he was not afraid. He also hinted that Nayeem had close connection with the big man in Karachi, Dawood Ibrahim.
