RSS seeks Madras HC nod for procession in 14 places

RSS made an application to the police to grant permission to conduct a procession.

Chennai: The RSS has approached the Madras high court to direct the police to grant permission to it take out a procession in their uniform (white shirt and olive brown full trousers), lead by a musical band on October 9 in 14 places in the state.

A single judge, before whom the petition filed by P.Vijayakumar, joint secretary of RSS at Coimbatore district, came up for hearing on Thursday, ordered notice to the state government and posted to October 3, further hearing of the case.

According to petitioner, the RSS was an organization espousing public causes particularly to promote the ethos of Indian culture and values. The RSS was founded and was existing to preserve peace and tranquility and to promote the feeling of nationalism and probity in all walks of life.

Members of RSS decided to celebrate the 1,000th birth anniversary of Ramanujar and 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar and Vijayadasami which happens to be the auspicious day when the RSS was started, by taking out a procession on October 9, 2016 in 14 places including Coimbatore in the state.

Therefore, the RSS made an application to the police to grant permission to conduct a procession. However, there was no response, he added. He said earlier in 2014 the police refused permission and the RSS approached the high court, which allowed its petition and permitted them to take a procession.

Again, when the police permitted the procession without uniform and musical instrument, the RSS challenged the same and the petition was allowed on January 8, 2016. The appeal filed against this order, was tagged along with the other pending appeals. There was no stay granted in the appeals, he added.
