Hyderabad: Tadbund has worst junction'

The road between Paradise and Secunderabad Club has been closed now for three months for laying huge water pipes.

Hyderabad: The important Tadbund-Bowenpally-Bantia Showroom crossroads in the Cantonment area can be called the worst junction in the Twin Cities.

The road between Paradise and Secunderabad Club has been closed now for three months for laying huge water pipes. Road from Tadbund to Trimulgherry is badly damaged though over 9 lakh people use the stretch that connects half of the Cantonment with Paradise.

Traffic heading to Karkhana and beyond from Paradise circle is diverted to Bowenpally junction through the SCB CEO’s residence. The only route to Karkhana is a U-turn in front of the Maruti showroom and immediate left to the CAW department junction.

Ms M. Neomi of Bowenpally said, “All three roads, Bhantia Showroom road, CAW junction and the one leading to Karkhana, are highly damaged with huge potholes. Water accumulated here during the recent rains and it was dangerous to drive. The speed of traffic is below 5 kmph at this junction.”

Mr Ivan Sherratt, also of Bowenpally, said, “The roads were damaged earlier but the recent rains have further eroded them. Certain roads leading to Hasmathpet are completely damaged. One cannot find a motorable road this side of Cantonment.”

This is also one of the most crucial routes for motorists commuting from Medchal to Paradise, also for those living in a cluster of gated communities (villas) near the National Institute for Mental Handicapped. All roads leading to Maruthi Enclave, Dubai Gate, Krishi Nagar, Anjaiah Nagar, RTC Colony, Bapuji Nagar, Dhana Laxmi, SAIL Colony and DPS have been washed out completely.

“There are more ditches and less road, it is a horror to commute every day,” added Ms N. Sandhya of Bapuji nagar .

The SCB authorities state that this particular stretch is maintained by the State Highways department.

“It is for the concerned department to lay or repair the roads,” added an SCB engineer.

Officers from State Highways department were unavailable for comment.
