Provincial president of the National Conference (NC) and MLA from Nagrota Devender Singh Rana today threatened statewide agitation if the tehsil office at Jandrah (Nagrota constituency) and other administrative units created by previous the NC-Congress government are not made functional by December 31.

Addressing a press conference, Rana said, “The PDP-BJP government is squarely responsible for not sanctioning and posting staff to the new administrative units in the Nagrota Assembly constituency, as elsewhere in the state, created by the Omar Abdullah Government on October 21, 2014, as per Cabinet decision No 187/14/2014.”

Rana said the present dispensation was on record having assured in the Legislative Assembly that the matter with regard to sanctioning of staff for the tehsil office at Jandrah and other administrative units was being examined by the Finance Department.

“Instead of taking urgent steps to make the new administrative units functional, senior BJP leaders are roaming in Nagrota and taunting people over delay in making these functional,” he alleged.

Elaborating on new administrative units, Rana said the Omar-led government had created nine subdivisions, 50 tehsils and 99 niabats across the state. These included subdivision status for Nagrota, tehsil for Jandrah and two new niabats at Shiba and Kathar in the Nagrota Assembly constituency.

“Even if the government had constraints, these units could have been made functional by posting staff under internal arrangement in order to satiate the urges and aspirations of the people and making the administration vibrant,” he said.

Rana alleged that the PDP-BJP coalition government was creating obstacles in taking the administration to the doorsteps of public. He described the sanctioning of these administrative units as historic, saying the idea was to give respite to people of far-flung areas, who were required to cover long distances for getting their issues settled.
