Burnaby RCMP arrest a man accused of making child porn

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Vigilante groups aren’t the only ones looking for child predators online. RCMP say a covert sting has led to the arrest of a 56-year-old man who tried to meet a young girl for sex in Burnaby.

Back in March, a Mountie pretended to be a single mom.

“A covert online investigator, posing as a single mother of two children, entered an online chat website known for being used by the users to discuss their sexual interests,” says Inspector Tyler Svenson who says the conversion turned to sexual acts with kids, mainly the fictitious mother’s children.

He says the fake mom arranged to meet the suspect at a Burnaby restaurant where the suspect believed he would be introduced to one of the children.

RCMP met him instead and took him into custody.

56-year-old Ronald Gardner is charged with making child pornography and arrangement or agreement to commit a sexual offense against a child.

Gardner, who has no fixed address, was also charged with failing to comply with an order involving previous child pornography-related charges.

Inspector Svenson says the RCMP wants the public to know they are online and are doing their best to make the Internet a safer place.

Police say Gardner was released on bail eight days later with a number of conditions restricting his access to children, computer devices and the Internet but that he was arrested again in April for accessing the Net.
