Committee on Promotion of Organ Donation holds meeting (with photo)
*******************************************************************
The Committee on Promotion of Organ Donation held its second meeting today (September 29) to review the progress of the promotion of organ donation and discuss the upcoming promotional plan with the view to encouraging more people to support organ donation.

The Chairperson of the Committee and the Under Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, said, "The Government launched the Organ Donation Promotion Charter in June this year and invited different organisations, corporations and schools to indicate their support on promotion of organ donation and appeal to the public to register their wish of donating their organs on the Centralised Organ Donation Register managed by the Department of Health.  There are over 180 signatories of the said Charter so far.

"These signatories have been organising various promotional activities, such as distributing promotional leaflets, producing videos. Some of them have set up working groups to study how to further promote the culture of organ donation, encourage their staff or members to register their wish to donate organs, further solicit support from the family members of their staff or members and help promote the culture in the community.

"With the view to further stepping up the promotion on organ donation, the Government will introduce large scale promotional work in the coming months, including cooperating with the Mass Transit Railway Corporation Limited on organising large scale promotional activities and conduct a bus parade to invite more members of the public to get familiarised and accept the concept of organ donation."

At the meeting, the members of the Committee expressed views on issues such as how to further improve the promotional work on organ donation. They are of the view that the Government may consider enhancing the support provided to different organisations in conducting activities promoting organ donation and to make better use of the Internet and social media to disseminate the information on organ donation, and to encourage the public to register their wish at the CODR immediately.

The Food and Health Bureau, the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority will thoroughly study the recommendations proposed by the members and continue working with different parties in the society to enhance the promotion on organ donation.

Setting up by the Government in April this year, the Committee comprises members from relevant professional organisations and non-governmental organisations, as well as media partners. The membership list of the Committee is as follows:
