MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Asylum seekers in the United Kingdom wait to receive their work permits longer than in other EU member states, local media said Thursday, citing a recent report on the integration of refugees in the labor market in Europe.
According to The Guardian, citing a recent report by Italy's Migration Policy Centre and Germany's Bertelsmann Stiftung think tank, asylum seekers in the United Kingdom should wait for 12 months before they could apply for a work permit.
The United Kingdom is said to take the longest to allow access to the labor market, followed by France, Luxembourg and Slovenia.
The European Union is struggling with an enormous flow of migrants, entering the bloc by crossing the Mediterranean Sea or through southeast Europe. Against the backdrop of the migration flow, European member states assume measures aimed at integrating refugees, resettling them and providing the asylum seekers with houses and work.
