outh Sulawesi Police have arrested seven teenagers suspected of arson and vandalism during a demonstration at the Gowa Legislative Council building on Monday, leaving the plenary hall totally destroyed.
Of the seven perpetrators, two of them — a 14 and 15 year old — allegedly set the fire and have been detained at the South Sulawesi Police office.
Other perpetrators are being detained at the Gowa Police office. They will be charged with arson and vandalism and could face a maximum five years in prison.
South Sulawesi Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Frans Barung Mangera said they were arrested in different locations in Gowa.
The young suspects will follow due process of law and be provided with counselors as required by the Child Protection Law.
Police investigators are still hunting the instigator of the violent demonstration.
