BHUBANESWAR: The
Naveen Patnaik government in its 16 years of rule has named more than 10 of the 29 state sponsored schemes after former chief minister Biju Patnaik. This was revealed by planning and convergence minister
Usha Devi in a written reply to the state assembly on Wednesday.
A year after assuming power, the BJD government had launched the
Biju Krushak Vikas Yojana in 2001 to augment the irrigation potential of the state by setting up new minor and lift irrigation schemes.
In 2013, the state government launched the Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana, a health insurance scheme for the farmers. To ensure electricity for all, the Naveen Patnaik government came up with two schemes, the
Biju Gram Jyoti Yojana and the Biju Saharanchal Vidyutikaran Yojana.
With an eye on the construction of bridges in rural Odisha, the government came up with the Biju Setu Yojana. Some of the other schemes launched after Biju include
Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (to provide concrete houses for all), Biju Atma Nijukti Yojana (to provide self-employment to all youths), Biju Gramin Swasthya Sibar, Biju Koraput-Balangir-Kalahandi Yojana and Biju Kandhamal-O-Gajapati Yojana.
