'Chattisgarh HC rejects bail plea of accused in Gaurang murder case

Chhattisgarh high court has rejected bail application of the four accused arrested in connection with mysterious death of Gaurang Bobde, a builder's son, who died under mysterious circumstances in a city mall in July this year. The court also questioned police investigations in the case.

BILASPUR: Chhattisgarh high court has rejected bail application of the four accused arrested in connection with mysterious death of Gaurang Bobde, a builder's son, who died under mysterious circumstances in a city mall in July this year. The court also questioned police investigations in the case.
In their statements before the court Pushpendra Singh and Arnold Masih, guard of the said mall had stated all the four accused were present at the crime scene.
They said one of the accused, Ankit Malhotra had dragged Gaurang onto the stairs and pushed him down. However, CCTV footage provided by police does not prove the point. Footage shows Gaurang falling from the stairs, resulting in his death. Thus, statements by witnesses and CCTV footage provided by police did not match.Police did not question the accused as to why they left Gaurang in the basement of the mall and fled.Accused, while applying for bail in the lower court stated there were no evidences against them in CCTV footage, whereas prosecution had submitted the footage several days after they moved the bail application was filed in the lower court. The high court questioned as to how the accused know about contents of the said footage.The high court also questioned contention of police that they had registered an FIR in this regard after they received information from the district hospital about an unknown body brought from the mall.
The court further said while all other aspects of the case would be heard during the trial, however, at present the circumstantial evidences appear to be against the accused.Earlier, on September 22, while hearing the case the bench of Justice Gautam Bhaduri had kept it order reserved in the case.
