Chennai: With
Karnataka refusing to release water to Tamil Nadu, DMK leader
M Karunanidhi on Wednesday demanded that Prime Minister
Narendra Modi intervene in the
Cauvery row and convene a meeting of chief ministers of
Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to sort out the issue.
In a party release, the DMK leader expressed reservations over the meeting organized by Union water resources minister Uma Bharti with the executive heads of the state following
Supreme Court direction to end the impasse.
"Some media reports suggest that Karnataka has the minister's backing," Karunanidhi said. If Cauvery water is not released, farmers would suffer huge losses as present storage in Mettur dam would not be sufficient until November, he said.
