Madrasas influence separatists, shut them down, says Gujarat IPS officer D G Vanzara

Calling for the closure of madrasas, former Gujarat IPS officer D G Vanzara Wednesday said that the “education imparted in madrasas” had influenced separatists in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a rally in Godhra, amid chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Vanzara said that had it not been for the encounters in Gujarat, the state would have turned into a haven for terrorism, like Jammu and Kashmir.

Vanzara said, “The ongoing anti-national activities must be destroyed. In 2002, the fire that raged through Godhra also affected Gandhinagar. While I do not want to go into much details, the terrorists located outside India, who were helping the terrorists (in India), were eliminated in an encounter by the Gujarat Police as per the law and the procedure. But we have a 70-year-old politics in our country to which the Gujarat police fell prey. Terrorism should not be an issue of parties or vote banks. The country suffered because we were sent to jail.”

Speaking on Pakistan, Vanzara said, “India has fought Pakistan to eliminate terrorism in 1948, 1965, 1971 and 1999. If you do not kill terrorists, the terrorists will kill you. Even the Kashmiri Hindus cannot live there. What has to be done with Pakistan will be done, but right now we have to deal with Kashmiri separatists who are influenced by the teachings in madrasas. These are the teachings of madrasas… they should be restrained, or better still such education should be stopped.” Vanzara added, “If the Gujarat Police had failed to do (the encounters) back then, Gujarat would have become another Jammu and Kashmir.”

Vanzara was also felicitated at the event.
