COIMBATORE: A liver transplant procedure using laparoscopic method would be streamed live from a hospital in South Korea during the four-day silver jubilee national conference of Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterologists, from October 6.
Claimed to be first of its kind, the transplant by laparoscopic method would benefit nearly 1,500 surgeons from India and abroad, attending the conference, its organising chairman Dr C Palanivelu told reporters on Wednesday.
The conference would feature liver surgeries, international summit and updates on cancer treatment of the gastrointestinal tract, which is the main theme, he said. Besides the liver transplant, various other laparoscopic cancer surgeries will be telecast live from GEM hospital to the venue in the latest 4K and 3D format on the first day, he said. Also, 30 experts would speak about the standard care for pancreatic cancer, he said.
