According to the police, the accident occurred on September 23 when Pegu and three of her friends – Tanuj Kalita, Siddharth Pathak and Akshara Badola, all DU students – were on their way to DU’s North Campus area. “They had booked an Uber cab from Greater Noida to go to Delhi University. Their car hit a dumper which had been parked on the road. The dumper had a flat tyre. They were returning home after visiting a friend’s house in Greater Noida for a party. This incident happened around 3 am to 4 am,” said Amarnath Yadav, station house officer of Noida Sector 20 police station.

A spokesperson for Kailash Hospital, Noida, where Pegu died, said, “She was on ventilator support since she had sustained severe injuries in the accident. She had multiple fractures including a serious head injury. Two others also sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment. They are out of danger. Pegu’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination.”

Police said Pegu was in the rear seat and hit the dashboard and windshield when the cab rammed the dumper. “The cab driver was arrested. He too sustained injuries on his torso and needed medical help,” said SHO Yadav. An FIR against the driver under sections related to rash driving was registered, he added.
