Amritsar, September 28

The SGPC will hold an executive meeting tomorrow at Gurdwara Degsar Sahib at Katana (Ludhiana) amid doubts over its validity.

The recent Supreme Court judgment in the voting rights’ issue implied that the 2010 SGPC body, which has been running the affairs, should stand dissolved. So, it has lost all rights to take decisions.

The SGPC elections were last held on September 18, 2011. However, the new body could not take charge following the High Court’s verdict of quashing the 2003 notification in December 2011.

Now the question arises that if the 2010 body is no more valid, then how could it conduct an executive meeting? RS Ranu, Sehajdhari Sikh leader who had initiated the voting rights issue, said that technically, the 2010 body does not hold any significance under the present circumstances.

SGPC’s former member and advocate Jaswinder Singh said that under the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925, it has been mentioned that until the new House executive is constituted, the outgoing House is legally active.
