Villagers protest delay in road, bridge construction

Villagers of Mothrowala area led by Naveen Chettri, gram pradhan, held a protest in front of the Public Works Department (PWD) office here today. They were demanding construction of a bridge and repair of roads in their area. Residents alleged that the construction work of roads at Vishnu Puram, Bank Colony, Indrapuri, Naukka and Mahalaxmi Puram areas were pending for the past many years. They said despite several representations, PWD officials were not taking steps to construct a bridge at the Nai basti area. 

“It is pity that villages coming under Dehradun city lack proper roads and infrastructure. Most of the area is waiting for roads from long time, whereas existing roads are in bad condition. This shows that the state government and PWD officials don’t care about problems of public,” said Naveen Chettri, gram pradhan, Mothrowala. 

“Everyday many people are injured due to bad condition of roads. The situation becomes terrible during rainy season in the Nai Basti area. Now, we have given the final ultimatum to the department. If the work is not started shortly, then we would be left with no other options but to intensify the protest,” he concluded.

PS Thapliyal, Sher Bahadur, Dalveer Bartwal, Indresh Puri, Dimple Thapa and Durga Karki took part in the protest.
