WASHINGTON

Two students and a teacher sustained non-life-threatening injuries after a shooting at a South Carolina elementary school Wednesday, according to officials.

One of the injured students at Townville Elementary School was airlifted to a hospital for treatment while the other and a female teacher were sent by ambulance to a nearby medical center, Anderson County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators said a male found dead at a house 3 miles from the school before the shooting, was "directly connected" to the incident.

Officers told a local network that a teenage suspect was in custody.

The shooting is the latest in a series of mass shootings that have plagued the U.S.

Turkish immigrant Arcan Cetin was charged with opening fire on a Seattle-area mall last weekend, killing five people. And Nathan Desai, a disgruntled lawyer, injured nine people at a Houston mall Tuesday before being fatally shot by police.
