Mumbai: 21-yr-old dies after bike skids due to pothole

“My son had gone out with his friend to a nearby shop for an ice-cream and they were going to take a U-turn under the J J Flyover to come back. They had gone out for a short distance and thus did not take their helmets along. But if the road didn’t have such a big pothole, nobody would have got hurt,” said his father Kamaal Khan, a Nagpada resident .

Khan had completed his junior college and was working with his father in shoe business.

The father blamed the civic body and the contractor for his son’s death and even approached the J J Marg police station demanding that an FIR be registered.“I don’t want any compensation but the person responsible for not repairing such large potholes has to be punished. I don’t want another parent to lose a child to a similar, avoidable incident,” said Khan.

After being rushed to J J Hospital, the 21-year old was taken to Saifee Hospital since his family alleged that J J was not providing adequate treatment. “My son’s friend called us after the accident. We rushed to the hospital, but saw doctors had simply put him on a glucose drip. They had not given him any other medication or treatment. We thus decided to take him to Saifee Hospital. But he died on the way there,” said Khan.

Dilip Shinde, Senior Police Inspector of J J Marg police station, said an accidental death report had been registered.
