Ashani leads Bhavan's to U-14 Divisional School Badminton triumph

NAGPUR: A brilliant performance by Ashani Joshi propelled Bhavan's BP Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, to triumph in the DSO U-14 Inter-School Divisional level badminton tournament at the Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur, here on Wednesday.
Thirteen-year-old Ashani had no trouble winning both her matches to lead Bhavans to 2-0 win over Modern School, Koradi in the U-14 girls final.
Ashani, a Standard VIII student of Bhavans, gave her team a flying start with an 21-8, 21-4 win over Niraga Kulkarni. The tall and lanky shuttler dominated the match from the word and did not give any chance whatsoever to her opponent.
In the doubles, the pair of Ashani Joshi and Sophia Simon trounced Modern School duo Nikkita Joseph and Sanika Maind 21-12, 21-7. Ashani and Sophia combined well to thwart the comeback bid of Modern School.
In the U-14 boys too, Bhavans shuttlers ruled the roost as they demolished Modern School with a similar 2-0 margin. Nilay Deshpande was the top performer for the winning team.
In the first singles, Nilay Deshpande outclassed Siddharth Bambal 21-12, 21-5 to help Bhavans off the mark in style. The duo of Ishan Vithalkar and Nilay Deshpande dismissed the challenge of Naimish Kasat and Rushi Maheshwari 21-17, 21-11.
In both the finals, Bhavans did not lose a single game en route the triumph.
