Auto shop says Panthers' Mike Tolbert paid $3900 bill in coins

Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert put an auto repair shop on blast on Tuesday for doing what he said was substandard work and for being a “terrible business.” The shop, Motion Lab Tuning, then replied with their own version of events, saying Tolbert expected the work done for free and then paid them in coins once local police forced him to settle his bill.

Before we decide this case, let’s get to the evidence provided by both parties.

First, to the football-playing gentleman. Tolbert posted a photo of the shop with the caption:

Queen City and surrounding areas!!!! If you need any motor work or anything done to your car I urge you DO NOT I repeat DO NOT go to this place! I was quoted a price and a 10 day completion time frame!!! 2 1/2 months later still not done and upped the price from the original quote! Terrible business and owner! I expected a level of professionalism that I did not receive and the owner expected me to pay more because I’m “a millionaire”!!!! Charlotte be aware they are crooks to the fullest extent!!!

Because one side rarely provides the entire story, here’s the other side of it, from Motion Lab Tuning’s Facebook page:

Today was a huge waste of time and a major disappointment. Many of you may know who Mike Tolbert is. He plays for the Carolina Panthers. He had an old car at the shop for a motor swap. You might think because he is a professional athlete he would be a fair and ethical person.
From the beginning, he attempted to get us to do work for free because he is ‘Mike Tolbert’. So today, I am disappointed that it came to this, I had to call the police on Mike Tolbert. He and his buddy threatened me. CMPD actually banned him from the property today. They forced him to pay his bill before leaving though. In a passive aggressive manner, he thought he would get the last laugh by paying in coins. Pretty dumb really. All $3,900 in coins were easily identifiable as they came from a bank in boxes and perfectly counted out. I will say this, those coins will be taken in the boxes they came in and will be taken to a teller at BOA for deposit.
Now he is slandering me, saying things that weren’t true. Name calling, etc. Jesus man just pay your bills and be a good person. I also have to break it to my son who is a fan of Mike Tolbert that he that didn’t want to pay his bill.
There’s a special place for guys like Mike Tolbert. People like him that try to cheat a small business. Shame on him for this type of behavior.

Who’s in the right and who’s in the wrong? I’d make a decision, but I’m just a lowly writer. I’m no Judge Judy over here. That’s for certain.
