PUNE: Maharashtra Anti – Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune arrested Gram Sevak and his associate for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 from a contractor from Bhokardan in Jalna district to clear the bills of a solar project, a government initiative. The Gram Sevak and his associate were nabbed in Pune city on Tuesday.
According to ACB, Pune unit, The Bhokardan Gram Panchayat floated a tender to install solar dual pump in the village to support drinking and agricultural needs of the villagers.
A private company bagged the tender and gave the contract to the contractor.
After installing the solar dual pumps; which saves electricity cost of the village; the Gram Panchayat issued bill the company and contractor. The contractor was supposed to get additional sum of Rs 1.71 lakh from the Gram Panchayat.
The gram sevak and his associate allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 as bribe to clear the bills and to issue a cheque of the amount in favour of the contractor. A team headed by Superintendent of Police, Shirish Sardeshpande laid a trap at Wanowrie on Tuesday afternoon and nabbed the duo.
The suspects have been identified as Vishnu Fakirba Sonune of Bhkardan and his associate as Sayyed Azhar Sayyed. A case against the duo has been filed with the Wanowrie police station.
