Man dies in Gurdaspur central jail; family stages dharna with body

Batala, Sep 28 (UNI) Demanding action against the Gurdaspur central jail authorities and the in-laws of Ravinder Singh, his family members along with other relatives, today held a dharna with the body near Vishal mega mart and blocked the traffic for two hours.
Leading the protest, the deceased's mother, Daljeet Kaur (52) resident of village Kotli Musa under Sekhwan police station said that her son Ravinder Singh was having matrimonial dispute with his wife Prabjot Kaur. On September 16, a police team came to their house along with Ravinder’s in-laws and arrested him. On the same day, he was presented into the court and was sent to Gurdaspur central jail.
“On September 21, when I went to jail to meet my son, I was astonished to see that he was taken into the meeting room on a wheel chair with unconscious condition following which I asked the jail authorities to rush my son to hospital but I was told that Ravinder was undergoing treatment as jail premises. But on September 17, seeing his serious condition, they shifted him to civil hospital, Gurdaspur and later to Guru Nanak hospital at Amritsar, where he succumbed on Tuesday,” she added.
