An Arvind Kejriwal pinata, anyone? Perhaps you would prefer Rahul Gandhi? Or Narendra Modi? First, let’s clarify. The general elections may be far off in India, but the ongoing US Presidential election is throwing up unimaginable opportunities for Indian politicians to plumb for ideas being generated by Donald Trump as he fights to become the US President. He is failing miserably at the moment, but Donald Trump bashing is soaring. And pinatas are proof. So, we thought we should transplant the hottest idea in the US at the moment to Indian climes.
But what in the world are pinatas, leave alone Donald Trump tagged ones? Well, if you are the literal type, then a pinata is an animal figure which is stuffed with sweets, or whatever grabs the fancy of the user, that is hung from the ceiling and kids attempt to bash it and shower the floor with goodies. And how does Donald Trump fit in? Well, he made some sarcastic comments about Mexican immigrants and this had generated some heat back there with some going as far as to create some of these with paper mache – the idea was to bash the likeness of the controversial billionaire businessman.
They proved so popular, they were then transported to the US. Donald Trump pinatas are a rage there now. They are being sold on Amazon and some crafty shopkeepers are putting their skills and time to good use to create their own. Needless to say, they are all flying off the shelves. The latest in the news for doing so being Madonna who bought a busty Donald for her son’s birthday. The kids bashed the figure mercilessly! And Madonna posted the pictures on social media.
Coming back to India, and needless to say, the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi or for that matter, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal have generated content aplenty for trolls to have fun with, and so surely, they are prime candidates for pinatas. Can you see them being filled with goodies and belaboured to deliver a sweet solution? They were expected to bring sweet relief to the masses through their positions of power, but they failed politics, and Twitter and Facebook had a ball. And, arguing on behalf of the AAP leader and considering he blames Modi for every failure of his government in Delhi, perhaps a Narendra Modi pinata is just what the doctor ordered. Perhaps, after Modi pinata bashing the relief will be so heady, the Delhi CM may actually get some work done!
And who is that one figure in the Indian political firmament who can take advantage of this opportunity the most? Considering that Narendra Modi has been the most forward-looking and ingenious of leaders, as is proved by his speeches during the elections as well as the use of his masks at rallies, or even the social media storm that he created, we believe it is the current PM of India who is most likely to get the most out of the US polls to really put one past his rivals.
But we see a wider use of these figures of fun. For the enterprising ones amongst us, here is an idea – a Make in India idea that may well create tens of thousands of jobs! While you can definitely try the Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi opportunity, why not stay on your toes and every time there is breaking news you rush to create a perfect pinata for that particular occasion?
