The decision was made because of supply issues

LG's G5 flagship wasn't exactly a sensation on the market, despite the fact that it was a modular phone that offered multiple possibilities to users. However, LG hasn't given up on a successor to the G5 and some details of the upcoming phone are starting to surface.

According to a report by ZDNet, LG Electronics has apparently given up on its plans to feature a curved OLED display on its upcoming flagship smartphone, the LG G6. The measure was taken because of supply issues, the report mentions.

Instead of the curved OLED display, LG Electronics opted for a flat-screen LCD screen, found in previous LG smartphones. Screens on LG devices are made by LG Display, an affiliated company which has stated that it doesn't have the capacity to meet demand for the G6.

The G6 won't have a full metal body and glass cover design

LG Display is currently a supplier of small-sized OLED panels for Apple Watch and smartwatches developed by LG Electronics. The company will be producing smartphone displays in the second half of next year, but won't be able to make the transition in time for the G6.

In addition, the smartphone won't be coming with a full-metal body and glass cover due to cost issues, and the company might also change the design of the phone. LG has been working on super-fast charging solutions for its smartphones, but apparently they won't be featured on the G6.

LG recorded a loss of $136 million in the second quarter, mainly due to unsatisfactory sales of the LG G5, which failed to attract consumers, although it was well received by critics.

The company is betting on its latest flagship smartphone, the V20, which will be made available in South Korea this week. It remains to be seen if LG keeps the modular design on the G6, but the exclusion of a curved OLED display and metal body design might not be well received by consumers.
