In another update for the Chrome browser for mobile, many new enhancements have been incorporated in order to reduce data usage and price. This comes as a relief for many parts of the developing economies where most of the available internet is wired and the rest have a connection which is very slow and limited. With the possibility of a 5G connection to be available in the near future, there are people who are still using GPRS speed levels. In order to find a solution to this, the developers at Chrome have decided to improve the mobile browser so that websites can be loaded quicker and using fewer data. These developers are always encouraged to make their pages AMP-lified, but not Chrome browser ha been improved for users so that they can use the internet for a longer time with same data and faster speeds.Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, Vice President of Product and Data Minimalist, in Google’s blog wrote, “But challenges like high data cost and slow, 2G-like connections often prevent our users from getting the most out of the web.”

The Data Saver feature is an addition to the Chrome browser for Android. This feature is used to compress the images and texts, resulting is saving of around 60 percent of data which eventually saves cost as well. Even for videos, the feature is reported to save around 67% of data, when watched on YouTube and the likes. This new feature is now available in India as well, which is a delight for many consumers. Roy-Chowdhury wrote in the blog, “We want to make Chrome a better place for all our users to enjoy the mobile web. Chrome’s new features on Data Saver, downloads, and content discovery were designed to help you do more on the web, no matter what phone or network you may have.”

As far as content downloading is concerned, Chrome download button comes to the rescue. The down arrow button can be used to save the web files for later and can be downloaded later also in case the internet loses network connection. In the introduction of the new feature, relevant and related searches will be made available which will give the user suggestions for websites, making the browser more efficient. Roy-Chowdhury added, “To help you get back to all your content, we added a new home for all your downloads, right inside Chrome. Whether it’s the article you saved for later or that movie trailer for the train ride home, you can access all the content while you are offline.”
