Sensex ends 69 points up, Nifty settles above 8,740; Eicher Motors, Idea Celluar gain

The BSE Sensex closed 69.11 points up at 28,292.81, while Nifty settled 38.75 points up at 8745.15.

Closing Bell
The BSE Sensex closed 69.11 points up at 28,292.81, while Nifty settled 38.75 points up at 8745.15. In the Nifty 50-index, Eicher Motors, Hindalco, Idea Cellular, Tata Steel and Zee Entertainment gained between 3.45 per cent and 5.56 per cent. On the other hand, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra, Coal India, HUL and Sun Pharma slipped between 0.61 per cent and 1.95 per cent.

3.00 pm: Meanwhile, MRF shares hit their new record high of Rs 50,000 during the day. Sensex was trading up 67 points at 28291. Nifty was trading 34.45 points up at 8,740.85.

2.55 pm: Tide Water Oil was trading 1.33 per cent up at Rs 5,757.

1.55 pm: Bharti Airtel was trading 1.48 per cent up at Rs 318.65. The company has launched new International Roaming (IR) packs that redefine the value proposition for customers traveling abroad. With the new IR packs, customers will have the convenience of carrying their India mobile number wherever they go and stay connected 24×7 without having to worry about high call and data charges. The packs will be available to both postpaid and prepaid customers. Sensex was trading 93 points down at 28316.46. Nifty was up 35.30 points at 8741.70.

1.33 pm:  ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, which recently concluded its Rs 6,057-crore IPO, will make its stock market debut on Thursday, becoming the first insurer to list.

12.37 pm: Meanwhile, European markets opened higher.  DAX and CAC were trading up by 0.75 per cent and 0.72 per cent, respectively, in the early trade. Sensex was trading 77 points up at 28300.37, while Nifty was up 31.85 points at 8738.25.

12.18 pm: Sensex was up 29.92 points at 28,253. Shares of NDTV were trading 2.36 per cent higher at Rs 89. The company has launched its flagship channel ‘NDTV 24×7’ on Singtel on September 26, 2016, expanding its presence in Singapore. ‘NDTV 24×7’ is available in the Singtel TV Kondattam and Desi Starter, Trio, Variety and Value Packs.

10.58 am: Sensex was trading 2 points up at 28,225. Nifty was up by 5.15 points at 8,711. Ahluwalia Contracts (India) has received new order aggregating Rs 151.39 crore work awarded from Bharat Electronics (BEL). The total order inflow during the FY 2016-2017 stands at Rs 1360.98 crore. Shares of Ahluwalia Contracts were trading higher by 2.67 per cent at Rs 308.

10.15 am: Inditrade Capital has taken an in-principle decision to increase its existing shareholding in JRG International Brokerage DMCC (JRG DMCC), a company registered with the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, upto an aggregate of 51 per cent of the paid-up capital of JRG DMCC, within a period of 24 months subject to the relevant regulatory approvals (both in India and UAE), if any. Shares of Inditrade Capital were trading 5.36 per cent up at Rs 46.20.

9.32 am: In the 50-share index, Aurobindo Pharma, TCS, Lupin, YES Bank and Ambuja Cement were up between 1.15 per cent and 2.67 per cent. On the other hand, Adani Ports, Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, BPCL and Larsen & Toubro were down between 1.49 per cent and 2.20 per cent.  Nifty was up 7.10 points at 8713.50. Sensex was trading 19.22 points up at 28242.92.

9.16 AM: Sensex was trading 55.84 points up at 28279. Nifty was up 17.65 points at 8724.05. Balaji Telefilms shares were trading nearly 12 per cent up at Rs 100.80. Motherson Sumi was trading higher by 1.12 per cent at Rs 317.40.

OPENING BELL

The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty opened on a flat note on Wednesday tracking mixed global cues.
The 50-share index opened 4.80 points up at 8,711.20, while the 30-share index opened 24.82 points down at 28,198.88. Domestic equity markets fell for the third straight day on Tuesday on account of profit booking and weak European cues.
